Emotion Focused Therapy & Safe Haven Training
Because doing marriage counseling is hard and good marriage counselors are harder to find, Dr Sharon May has a heart for training marriage counselors in Emotionally Focused Therapy/Safe Haven Model. She offers a 2-day training followed by a one-day case consultation.
Who can attend the Safe Haven Counselor Training:
The training is aimed for the professional counselor interested in increasing their knowledge and clinical therapeutic skills to more effectively work with couples and families utilizing Emotionally Focused Therapy and the Safe Haven Model, specifically integrating faith. Attendees are required to have a minimum of a master’s degree (or currently enrolled with intern status) in psychology, marriage and family therapy, social work or other such related field.
2-Day Training Description:
Theoretical foundation, case conceptualization and understanding of key movements and shifts that bring about change when working with a distressed couple. You will gain an understanding of Emotionally Focused Therapy’s 9 steps of change, how to work with emotions to bring about change, withdrawer engagement, pursuer softening and utilizing key interventions.
1-Day of Cases
Following each 2-day seminar is an optional third day of reviewing cases, practice exercises, demonstration and possible live session. You can attend this one-day of cases as often as you like.
You may cancel up to 21 days prior to the training for a full refund. The event will be cancelled and a full refund given if there are less than 5 participants 21 days prior to the training. Maximum of 20 participants will allow for small classroom experience.
Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) was originally conceptualized by Susan Johnson and Les Greenberg and has become the most well-researched and highly successful marital therapy model of today. The model shows a 75% rate of total change and 90% rate of significant improvement. The Safe Haven Relationship Model was conceptualized by Dr Sharon May to distinguish it from pure EFT as it integrates Emotionally Focused Therapy with Christian principles, attachment theory and neurobiology of arguing. Dr Sharon May has received training from Susan Johnson and is an EFT approved therapist and supervisor.
